Acer CB3 Bay Trail Chromebook Review

So is the CB3 Chromebook a good choice for you?  Well that depends on whether you prefer battery life and a fanless design to a faster processor, since you can still get the older Acer C720 with a faster processor for the same price as this newer Chromebook.  It will be interesting to see if Acer offers discounts on the older Chromebooks which will make buying the CB3 even harder because it really seems like you are getting a sub par experience.  If you compare this to the 13″ NVIDIA CB5 then you are making a trade off in size and battery life because that Chromebook is thinner and gives you up to 13 hours on a single charge.  This Chromebook sort of sits in the middle of those two.   All this to say that this version isn’t a bad Chromebook, it’s actually a decent machine and most people won’t have any problems with a slightly slower processor.   The price is actually pretty great and even a little cheaper than the comparable Asus C200 Chromebook which goes for slightly more money.

Overall, the Acer CB3 is a solid device especially for the 199.99 price point. It is perfect as an auxiliary device for anyone who needs a basic machine to do every day activities-mcp2112

I own an Acer 720 chromebook. Just picked up a new CB3 … After getting it charged up and set up the first thing I did was to play an HD youtube trailer at 1080. It played perfectly. Played some CNN videos set to HD and they all played perfectly. I was a bit worried about video performance having heard that the new baytrail chip didn’t handle HD video that well. Can’t speak to any streaming services as I don’t subscribe to any. Usually just have one tab open at a time too. Speed is just a tad bit slower but really not noticeable unless you are really looking for it. The construction is solid and rigid. – chicobiker

Acer CB3 vs Acer c720 vs Acer CB5

As Chromebooks become more and more mainstream, you are going to have to make some choices on what’s important to you and what you are using your Chromebook for.  For some that might mean more battery life compared to stronger performance.  I prefer a larger screen, so the Acer CB5 or the new Toshiba CB35-B3340 Chromebook 2 might be a better choice.  If price is a concern then the older Acer C720 or the new CB3 are both great choices.  All three of these Chromebooks have compromises that you will have to live with but usually you can find a compromise that works with your lifestyle.
